What to Expect.
You’ll always be greeted with warmth at our Nottingham sauna site. We’ll guide you through the what to expect during your session, and we’re here for any advice or support you might need along the way.
Ready, Rinse, Relax
Please aim to arrive at least 5 minutes before your sauna slot to give yourself time to get changed and settling in. Changing is outside, or in our small communal changing room. We also have individual changing pods. Please arrive swim ready with your bathers on for the easiest transition.
We recommend starting with a refreshing shower or a plunge.
Make sure to shower before entering the plunge pools or sauna, and feel free to rinse again each time you transition between the two — it keeps things fresh and clean.

FAQs
Sauna Experience & Etiquette
-
We have two saunas at our Nottingham site.
The horse box sauna can comfortably hold up to 6 people at a time for a communal booking. Private bookings can hold 8 people, you’ll just be sitting a little bit closer together, but still plenty of space.
The cube sauna is slightly larger and can hold 7 for community sessions and 10 for private bookings.
-
If you're booked into a community session, you will be sharing the space with others. For a more personal experience, we offer private hire options for groups.
-
No – for hygiene and comfort, we ask that all guests wear swimwear while using the sauna.
-
Yes! We offer private group bookings, perfect for gatherings, wellness events, or a relaxing session with friends for up to 8 people.
-
If you feel unwell please leave the sauna and notify our staff. Take a seat and grab a drink. Rest easy knowing our staff are all fully first aid trained, and we’re fully safety compliant.
-
Cancellations can be made up to 24 hours ahead of your booked session. You can move your session to an alternative day or time. Refunds will be given if Saunahood cancels the sessions.
-
Children 10+ are welcome in the sauna but must be with an adult at all times. Children under 14 must not use the plunge pools, but they can use the shower. This is governed by our insurance.
-
We don’t allow any products to be used on site in our outdoor shower or in the sauna.
-
We don’t allow any oils other than the small amounts we put into the water bucket in the sauna. Oils cannot be put straight onto the sauna stones as they are flammable.
-
Yes! We now have two saunas on site and four plunge pools. Space for up to 18 people. If you would like to hire the site for an event or party please get in touch via hello@saunahood.co.uk or call Ellen on 07989640132.
Sauna & Cold Plunge Use
-
We recommend alternating between the hot sauna and cold plunge for maximum benefit: warm up in the sauna for 10–15 minutes, then take a short dip in the cold plunge to stimulate circulation. Repeat as desired.
-
Not at all. While the cold plunge can enhance the experience, you'll still feel great benefits from the sauna alone, including relaxation and improved circulation.
-
We keep our pools at a solid 10 degrees. This is a huge contrast from the heat of the sauna and is plenty cold enough to give you all the benefits of plunging.
-
We recommend between 30 seconds and no more than 3 minutes. This is enough time for your body to get over the cold shock reflex and for your nervous system to settle. Any longer than 3 minutes can affect the temperature of the pools and can inhibit muscle recover.
-
Our plunge pools are continuously filtered and cooled using a swimming pool system. We remove most of the water daily using a process called a backwash which removes dirty water through the filter. We then replace this with fresh water. We also use an eco sanitiser every day to ensure water is clean and safe.
-
We don’t use chlorine at Saunahood. Chlorine is a harsh chemical and can cause reactions from both inhalation and absorption through the skin.
Instead we use Eco3Spa products to clean and sanitise the water.
-
Our pools are fully emptied once a week after a 12 hour cleaning cycle. The pools are scrubbed and valves are cleaned. The pools are also backwashed daily to remove the dirty water and flush through the filter. We then top back up with clean water and add eco sanitiser.
